Title: Back again - Calete and Corrie
Post by: scottishnudist on February 08, 2016, 15:18:43 PM
I will be back for some sunshine in a week or so. Staying at Caleta but got a car so mobile. Will be visiting Corralejo and El Coltillo regularly. Has anything changed in the last year or so? Any new news? Hows the weather?

We have had new weather since the beginning of this year.
The seawater has been totally refreshed.
The beaches are more or less the same, just some sand blown from here to there and back.
Beach fashion has changed: many nudists seem to be wearing an older skin this year.

Well, I hope some of the tourists have changed. They'll have turned to leather if they've been on the beach all that time.

Might as well forget about coming to Corralejo though. There's a Burger King about to open here and according to some of the tourists on Facebook forums that's going to single-handedly turn the place into Blackpool or worse. I won't be using it but I don't think they'll succeed in making a time-capsule out of Corralejo. Didn't it use to be much more full of Brit bars anyway, before my arrival in 2012?

Went to Corralejo once  and never been back. Sheila's post doesn't encourage us to visit again.

We will be arriving on Sunday (South not North) I keep looking with concern at the BBC weather forecast that seems to be showing never ending cloud

You have to be a bit diverse in your outlook these days at the rate Fuerteventura is changing. El Cotillo is no longer the one horse town it once was. When we first went there it was a choice of a 4 or 5 bars and restaurants only. You could have a silent night time stroll around the town and not see anther soul. Now places are springing up everywhere. My wife had the best Mojito she's ever had in one of the new bars by the wasteground in front of the Cotillo beach hotel, so its not all bad. A Burger King or similar in Corralejo was inevitable. The worry for me will be when one hits El Cotillo.

There are still as many decent eating places in Corralejo as there ever were.
It's just that they are now more difficult to find, having been crowded out of the popular areas.

So some suggestions, perhaps, please?

Have you actually read the posts in the restaurant section?  Difficult to find any which are glowing reviews.  Hence my question.

Yes i have read it. La Scarpetta, Avenida, Torro Negro and Pinch Cabreras among many others have all had good reviews. Been to a few myself .

Rarely do people post positive reviews on anything nowadays. Just walking past a restaurant will tell you all you need to know , bums on seats.

Very true. And if bums on seats is a guideline to how good a restaurant is, then the tapas restaurant whose name i cant remember located in the old harbour in El Cotillo must be one of the best. Run by Yolanda i think it is, the food and portions are terrific and if i had to recommend anywhere that's the place i would go for.

PS. How does she do it in that tiny kitchen ?. You couldn't swing a cat in it.
