Limit on number of tourist beds
« on: August 12, 2017, 12:16:30 pm »
reading that the balearic islands have introduced a limit on tourist beds and clamped down on websites such as airbnb etc, how long do you think it will be before it is introduced to Fuerte ?

I think they will find this is counterproductive. With people staying away from places like Turkey & North Africa for holidays because of terrorism they should be trying to relax the regulations & increase bed numbers in the areas that are deemed to be "safe". Although, actually "safe" these days is a bit of guesswork.

I can't see it happening in Fuerteventura anytime soon.  You have to realise that the Balearics are absolutely overwhelmed by tourists.  Mallorca alone gets around 13 million tourists a year; Fuerteventura only around 3 million.  The whole scale of the problem is different.

The Canaries have said they're behind private rentals as long as they're regulated. In fact, they want to diversify, away from cheap hotels, into the 5* area, and that means individual as well as luxury. I just hope they don't keep "snootifying" everything.

Barcelona are calling it 'Turism-phobia'

It's simple racism.

We foreigners are absolutely despised by the Spaniards/Canarians. They wouldn't care if we all disappeared an never came back.

In all honesty, I have never experienced this yet.
I have Spanish neighbours & you couldn't meet nicer, more obliging or friendly people.
Also have German & Italian neighbours, all friendly & pleasant !!

Totally agree Spitfire, never experienced that, of my most immediate neighbours 5 are Spanish families and are always charming, I occasionally use a Spanish Bar, and find them very polite, no idea where that is coming from.
