There is a Public Meeting about the Ades Egypti mosquito next week.
Translated from the Spanish press:
Next Tuesday, December 19 at 5:00 pm, an informative meeting will take place in the Assembly Hall of the old Popular University in Puerto del Rosario to inform the public about all the information related to the actions carried out, and to make known the measures taken and those that are currently being studied after the detection on 3 December of Aedes aegypti specimens in an urbanization near the capital.

Participate in this informative meeting, in addition to the members of the team that is working in the area, the general director of Public Health, José Juan Alemán, the director of the Area of Fuerteventura, Miguel Rodríguez, the director of the University Institute of Tropical Diseases and Health Public of the University of the lagoon, Basilio Valladares, and the person in charge of the Network of National Entomological Surveillance, Javier Lucientes, the president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Marcial Morales, the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, Nicolás Gutiérrez.

The General Directorate of Public Health, the Health Area of Fuerteventura and the University Institute of Tropical Diseases and Public Health are working since last December 3 to delimit the exact area in which the recently detected invasive species Aedes aegypti has been introduced in Fuerteventura, in order to determine the extent that should be treated to eradicate it, as well as the type of biocide that will be used for it, following a methodology of scientific work in which it reconciles the immediacy with the rigor in the taking of decisions.

The team of field displaced to the zone, formed by technicians of the General Direction of Public Health, of the Area of Health of Fuerteventura and of the University Institute of Tropical Diseases and Public Health of the University of the Lagoon continues surveying in these days to the neighbors from a wide area around the point where invasive mosquito specimens were detected

The purpose of this door-to-door work is to inform citizens of the situation, request their collaboration, and continue to set traps for both larvae and adult specimens, which allow us to calibrate the extent affected by the mosquito, study its exact provenance and determine the way of entry through which has managed to reach our territory.

The technicians are also assessing at this time what type of biocide is most suitable to treat the areas that may be affected by the invasive mosquito, with the maximum guarantees of efficacy and safety for citizens and the environment.

The General Directorate of Public Health would like to thank the inestimable collaboration of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura and the City Council of Puerto del Rosario, as well as that of all the citizens who, in these days, are providing valuable information for the investigation.

The port is worth a visit when these Liners are in. It is a hive of activity with locals selling there coach trips and car and bike hire firms sending people all over the Island. The Rotundas seems to benefit the most as it is an easy walk for those not wanting to tour the Island.
