Hi All,

Where might I go to get quotes for the replacement of an outdoor metal spiral staircase when my existing one needs replacing ? Alternatively do you know of any joinery firms on the island who have expertise in the construction and fitting of wooden outdoor staircases ?

Any opinions on which of the two options (metal / wood) offers the longest life with the minimum of maintenance ? I would like to think it is wood since with metal if one part fails the whole lot would seem to be worthless.

Thanks for any replies.

I cannot personally recommend a carpenter/joiner, but there is a FaceBook page for all things to do with these different trades - link here

As far as the choice between wood and metal,, I would go for wood.   Anything metal seems to deteriorate faster.  My house here is about 20 years old with the original flight of wooden steps to the top terrace.  They are in great condition, could do with a new coat of protective stain, but otherwise as good as new.
