Just back from Fuerteventura and used Europcar again this time, (see our post October 2015). Really good service again and competitive price this time although booked through the Thomas Cook Flight website and that uses a firm called cartrawler, much cheaper than the price direct with Europcar. Full tank to go with, return full. Never used one of the empty to empty companies but would think that full to full is much better and easier. Again as we had an excess policy in the UK we turned down their excess cover and receptionist had no problem over that although did have to leave the credit card debit to cover the excess. We had a problem noise on the car during the hire, called them up and explained and arranged to change the car the following morning, again, turned up and no problem. We would certainly recommend them.

How much did they block from your card for the excess?

Hi Charlatanefc, 338.80 Euros, but they dont appear to have actually debited or credited the card with the tranactions. This has been the same in previous years. They have the card details, but never seem to debit the amount. We assume that they would in the event of damage. The amount is marked on the hiring agreement. Hope that helps.

The reason you don't see a debit is because they don't charge you unless they have to, what they do is reduce the amount of available credit. You won't see it unless you run up credit close to your limit. Great to hear that you had a good experience, I am a big fan of Plus Cars (Autoplus) and Payless.es I only use one or the other now.
