The Canary Islands government has approved the implementation of a 4.7-MW wind project on the island of Fuerteventura.

The project is called, Parque Eolico Fuerteventura Renovable II, which will be located in the municipality of La Oliva. A local company, Leo-Ras SL, will lead the project, which should start within six months from notification of the approval.

In 2016, the government has approved the development of 23 wind projects, 11 of which will be located in Tenerife; nine in Gran Canaria; two in Fuerteventura and one in Lanzarote.

The schemes are part of a policy to increase the number of wind farms on the islands in order to boost renewable energy capacity.
