There was a protest at Caleta Beach yesterday. A group were seated along the Prom with posters in various languages complaining about the quality of the water, the sand erosion, the ecological effect and the cost over run of the new beach. Also mentioned was the fact that the project has not been signed off. Anyone know who they are or who they represent?

Captain Sensible

I don't know anything about the protest.

I do know that the Ayuntamiento de Antigua and the Fuerteventura Cabildo haven't signed off the work, as they aren't happy with the beach regeneration that was done by the Spanish Costas Dept.

The beach regeneration didn't go over budget.

Nothing wrong with the beach. It is a big improvement than what we had before which flooded with every 2m tide. A little bit courser as it is from sea shells from the Ocean like many beaches all over the world. Its been packed all summer so cant see a problem.

It may be an improvement, that I will not argue but it is still a disgrace, for the amount of money spent on it, it is more like cement dust than sand, I also agree it has been packed all summer, so have the beaches behind Atlantico and The Sheraton, busier than previous years, but will they return that is the question, once you are here and with kids who want to play on the beach, you make the best of it, but come back again????

Its not cement dust. It is the ocean bed its natural, billions of years in its creation. Not the yellow stuff you can buy from B&Q.

It is also nothing like the "sand" behind Atlantico , Playa Blanca Puerto Rosario, and lets not mention The Dunes.

It's official - the powers that be think that the beach is now worse than it was before the regeneration.
The Fuerteventura Cabildo, The Ayuntamiento of Antigua and the business association have had a meeting and are now asking for a meeting with the Environment Minister because of the 'distrasrous result'.

As said before when its a natural beach you get what you get. When it has cost a lot of money and is a major project for the enhancement of the resort you expect something more. There's a lot of very easily pleased folks on here..more easily pleased than the Canarian authorities thankfully.

Not easily pleased just happy to be in a place that gives you a very special life and because of that we don't make mountains out of molehills. The Caleta beach ticks most boxes. Today the Atlantico beach was washed out again now that is a problem.

It's called value for money. They obviously did not get what they expected. If they want better for the resort then that's a feather in their cap. Better than just accepting what's thrown at you, forking out the dosh and letting you all get on with a poor deal.

Latest news - the Spanish Government have agrred to carry out work on the beach to improve it.  A tender will be made for the work to put right the faults and to sift the sand to eliminate the stones.
