When one buys an existing property back home, it is good practice to have the house inspected by an expert.
Not only the construction as such, but everything: roof, plumbing, electricity, foundation, woodwork, painting, bugs, asbestos ,etc
Does such service exist on the island, and if so, any recommendations?

Well of course such a service exists!

What you need is an "Aparejador". There are various other titles also which I can't think of. Locals will use the term "perito" also, but that's a little bit too general.

The problem you'll have is accountability. If they miss something, it's not their responsibility (like every other expert in Spain). They are also very expensive.

So getting a knowledgeable builder might be the way forward.

Additionally, in rural areas an "Ingeniero tecnico agricola" or "ingeniero agronomo" might be able to assist.
