El Cotillo lagoons in August

No it`s dreadful, I recommend everybody stays away from it. Especially during the middle fortnight of November this year…..


Seriously though it`s a bit like a mud flat when the tide is out but there are a few sandy patches and it is worth a visit. There`s a particular stone circle we like to visit. You can park the car within about 10 yards of it and when the tide`s in the lagoon fills to about a foot from the circle and is swimable. The popular part of this area is just out of sight round the corner and you can spend ages when there`s not another soul in sight. In fact it`s ideal for unsociable people like us.

There`s also a track which passes the side of the lagoon and heads out round the coast. It`s popular with anglers but there are good sunbathing spots to be found out there too.

Last time I was there, there was a digger flattening the area in preparation for Exodus filming. I presume the mud flats were used for a parting of the seas scene. I`m wondering if it`s changed much.
