What's the weather like? - Jan 2017
« on: January 01, 2017, 00:23:16 am »
Just to wish all of you weather gurus a very Happy New Year ....we can report that there are clear skies and a lot of barking dogs.
Just off out now to down town Cotillo and I am glad to report that the Easterly wind has dropped so we might get some sleep tonight.
Sick of popping those grapes! Boy, these locals know how to party (Hi there Ali).  So it's going to be a very late night for us!!!
I am afraid we are going to miss the usual morning post and the accompanying photos, but will catch up pm.
Again all the very best to you all for 2017

Tindaya - a nice sunny day to start the year, very warm out of the moderate breeze. Early evening the breeze dropped to nothing and it is still totally calm now - a welcome respite! There has been minor damage done in the garden over the last week with the strong wind coming from a different direction to normal, but not as bad as I had expected. A few fence panels need some attention and some small branches broken off. A few plants are looking very bald but I'm sure they will soon recover. The sand however has got in everywhere! Actually able to hang some washing out today without worrying that it would end up in MLA's hot tub in El Cotillo!

On a side note I was chatting with Bernie (Powers) today and asking about water availability before the mains were run into Tindaya and he said he had written a 'water' article for the latest Voice magazine - coincidence! I haven't seen a copy of the Voice yet but Bernie was a mine of info today! I think the Voice is available online but I can't seem to get it to load on my laptop today. (MLA, remind me to tell you about the Tindaya water when I see you!)

Yesterday, as forecast and similar to Tindaya, a sunny day, and if you could get out of the wind a pleasantly warm one, and as in Tindaya, the wind dropped after dark to hardly a breeze.

Caleta 08:00

Temp. 15 C.

Sky. almost completely clear.

Wind Southerly 20/22 MPH.

Humidity 51%

Forecast;-  some cloud to form as the day goes on, but to stay mainly sunny, temp to reach low 20,s, wind to remain southerly, but increase 24/26 MPH.

any indication as to when the wind is to change direction ? and hopefully to come from the N/N.E. so we'll have calmer sea's.

Not for another 10 days or so, according to some wind charts I looked at this morning, there is a dominating Westerly coming off the Sahara, and over and around Laayoune it splits into two and goes South West and North East I would assume it would need that to ease before anything else changes, and there is no sign of that, sorry

Corralejo - daytime - bright although a bit hazy, and sunny, but very strong SE wind. Friend gave up trying to dry her washing on the line after it kept blowing off. All sorts of rubbish was arriving in the garden, blown from goodness knows where. The air quality is very poor as is visibility - definitely a calima. Bears out John's post re Sahara.
Tindaya - evening - wind gradually died down over the course of the evening but is suddenly back with a vengeance, almost from due South. Intended to take a pic of the sunset from the Vallebron mirador to post here but not worth it due to lack of visibility!

Saw a report last night that I forgot to copy and then mislaid, saying that we are suffering poorer air quality (by a lot!) than Madrid where they are planning on banning cars to reduce pollutants! We have something like 800/900 whatevers and Madrid has 300+. Recommended anyone with lung problems, asthma, etc etc to stay indoors with doors and windows sealed. (Please don't suffocate indoors if it goes on too long!)

Just looked at the key to MLAs map - looks like my 'whatevers' might be ug m3s !!

As per John, Corralejo and Tindaya much the same again.

Gorgeous day over on the north and west coasts as well, and still no wind since it died down like John said. Visibility much improved.

Tindaya - much the same as John reported as forecast. Mid afternoon the cloud broke for a while and it was very pleasant with a light breeze:

By the time the Three Kings started their procession just after 5pm the weather was closing in again and it had got pretty chilly:

Hooray!

Very windy in Corralejo again today, from S/SE. Wind all over the place in Tindaya, couldn't make it's mind up, but it's blowing hard now from SW!

The way I resize is to save photo to PC, right click and 'open with', 'paint' then use 'resize' and set it to 640 x 480 pixels, then 'save'.
If you want to keep the original as well then use 'save as' and call it something different.
Then upload to imgur as normal.

Arrived safe and sound.

Very hazy looking from the plane to the horizon. Temp 20c. at airport 18.5c. on the car thermometer going over the mountains, and now 23c. on our upper terrace.

11.10am

1.15pm

Just returned from the beach. Very breezy early afternoon, but started to ease around 3.30-4.00pm, which made it feel relatively warm and pleasant.
