I am told that property/wealth tax has to be paid in December for the previous year. As I have purchased my appartment earlier this year (2006) will I be liable for tax this December or next and what would I expect to pay
Hi Seamus, antigua council issue their bills in october of each year, it is roughly 120e for rubbish then a small amount for wealth tax, depending on your type of property and location, budget 50 euros and you should be about right. Your next bill will proibably be oct 2007
Thanks Merlin54, I tried to pay in the town hall in December but because the complex was not fully handed over there are no taxes to pay this year. No doubt they will make up for it this year.
The local contact in Fuerteventura for Cadastral questions is the Department de Recordation at the Town hall in Antigua. I was told by my lawyer to contact a lady called Leticia. Tel 0034928878040. Payments for wealth tax are made via another office, the tax authorities know as the "Hacienda" Tel 0034928852200. Not everyone in these offices speak Spanish. My lawyer told me to budget for between 500 and 600euros. I am hoping this is not the case as it is only a one bed not a mansion. Anyway Seamus hope these numbers come in handy.
If you google wealth tax fuerteventura there is loads of official government information on all taxes on the fuerteventura property tax website. It is the most informative one that I have come accross.
