Fuerteventura will be part of the international circuit for LGBT rights for gays, lesbians and transsexuals with the celebration of the "Rainbow Sun Weekend" next October, in Corralejo.

Fuerteventura island will enter the world map of celebrations for the LGBT community driven with the dual purpose of defending all sexual orientations and promoting tourism in the island

This initiative, which has the backing of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and is open to private initiative, is part of Fuerteventura strategy to diversify its tourism and open doors to other markets.

The island aims to take over in the international calendar of LGBT celebrations next October after the end of the summer season in the major gay destinations in Europe. www.cabildofuer.es

The 'Rainbonw Sun Weekend' become 'friendly' European destiny to Fuerteventura

March 28, 2010

Fuerteventura will boost its position in the international tourist market as a 'gay friendly' destination through the Organization of the 'Rainbonw Sun Weekend', an event designed for clients of the LGTB collective but also open to the public in general, that among the 13 days14 and 15 October will take place in the town of Corralejo.

Álvaro Garrido, representative of the Organization, said today during the ceremony of presentation of the programme of activities that "the goal is to place to Fuerteventura as a preferred destination for the collective LGBT (lesbian, gay, transgender and bisexual) throughout Europe." It is the first time that it will do this kind of events on the island, and combines a commercial component, with exhibitions of products from companies in the tourism sector, but also in other sectors, designed for this group. There will also be a very important cultural component, with exhibitions of artists, activities, etc. "."

Garrido Álvaro thanked the involvement of the Chamber of Commerce of Fuerteventura and the reception received by the business community in general, "to have perfectly understood the opportunity for island meaning to host an event of this nature, which attracts a large number of visitors". The event also featured the participation of the President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Mario Cabrera, who stressed the importance of the initiative "because in addition to a cultural component, it will also have tourist impact between a market segment characterized by its high spending on target." "It is in line to the island as a tourist destination of quality, and we especially appreciate the involvement with the local business community."

For its part, the councilman of tourism of the olive, Hanna Souweileh, said during the presentation that Corralejo and in general the municipality of La Oliva "appreciated such projects for the important dynamic character to the local economy"", and because also the destination are located in a very interesting market".

The aim is that with the 'Rainbonw Sun Weekend' Fuerteventura enter on the world map of celebrations promoted by the LGBT community with a bet with an international vocation which pursues a double slope: the defence of the rights and respect for all sexual orientations and the tourist promotion of the island.

The event will advertise in the Islands, and abroad through specific advertising campaigns and travel agents. Thus, Fuerteventura aims to take over on the international calendar of LGBT celebrations next month of October following the end of the summer season in the main gay destinations in Europe.

With this objective, the fair will promote abroad in different cities, including Madrid (next Gay Pride) and agreements may be established with travel agents to facilitate access to Fuerteventura from other islands of the archipelago, the peninsula and various European countries.
