Title: Ryanair: new baggage policy in action??
Post by: Logitechtom on January 23, 2018, 09:16:20 AM
So, the new Ryanair policy of baggage in the hold for non-priority passengers has been operating for one week now.  Note we have not had any comments on the actual policy in action, either on the forum or in the press.

Anyone actually experienced the new policy?  Has it caused the massive delays boarding?  Have there been outbreaks of tears and tantrums at boarding gates?

Just be interested to know how it is working in practice although I fear I may need to put on my hard helmet for the torrent of anti-O'Leary comments that may follow!!!

Tom.

Friends came out from EDI on Saturday, all priority Q boarding passes were checked, then they just went down the Other Q and tagged every bag telling everyone to make sure they had any valuables etc in their small carry on bag. No noticeable delay.....I wonder whether it will be the same procedure when going back from Fueretventure, will find out next Tuesday.

It now often costs me more to book my seat and pay for priority than the flight itself!   :D :D :D :D

I came out today & it was the same. Seemed to be more Priority passengers than previously though. ALL other bags were tagged. Flight was not full, I would say 2/3 so it ended up that a lot of the luggage bins were not full either. The one above my seat had only my coat in it !! Didn`t speed up departure any, still 1/2 hr late leaving but they said that was down to other movement issues of arrivals & leavings.
Still arrived on time though !!

Every Ryanair flight is now like Musical Chairs as soon as the doors close.
How many people can change seats before the plane taxis >:( >:(
Have to say though that when we flew back to EDI on Tuesday, boarding the plane was quicker and even more importantly unloading at EDI to the dreaded bus (which takes you on a grand tour of Edinburgh before getting to the Passport Control) was MUCH quicker.

Flew back from FUE to LBA last night. Bags tagged and put in the hold, and when we got through immigration at Leeds they were already going around the conveyor.

Net result was a better than usual trip. No stressing to get to the front of the Other Q, no looking for a space in the locker, no struggling to get the bags up and down the stairs, no wheeling them for miles to immigration and the exit. They were there waiting for us and not the other way around.

Ofcourse I am sure it will not always be like this but on this occasion it worked out better than the old way.

I flew RA Dublin to Bergamo on Tuesday evening, all lined up priority (about 30 people only) and non priority, the girl came along the non priority line and tagged alll the wheelie bags no objects from people, some people with small back packs were let away with it. I must say boarding was much more efficient and pleasant. Doors locked before you know it. The system is working.

We flew out from Manchester on Monday and the new policy is working well IMO as boarding was fairly speedy considering they were only using the front door.

The big issue that slowed things down slightly was with families who are not seated together because they wont check in early or pay to get seats together.
