Sky TV going off.

Another rumour abounds about satellite here which is usually like, all our telly's going to be cut off!!! I've even heard people talk of Nilesat going off too which is utter nonsense.

It is not and never was. BBC will do as BBC always have and limit their coverage but the ad supported channels will probably be back as they always have before.

Sky channels will probably remain much the same, some channels you will get while others you won't.

I also recommend 12051 V 27500 for the default transponder now as it's a good strong signal here.

Nobody knows exactly what the effects of the switch over to astra 2e will involve but as stated it is highly likely that we will all most likely get at least what we had a couple of years ago (ie sky sport/movies etc) in fact the few channels that have migrated to 2F eurp beam are actually coming in a little stronger than the current 2a north beam channels so it looks like a 1.2 mtr dish will suffice for everything that is available. (previously 1.2 just about held the 2a north transponders but not always)

The only certainty is that when BBC switch from 1N to 2E UK beam....you will need a bloody big dish, almost certainly in excess of 3 mtrs.

The only people currently spreading the doom and gloom message about nobody in the canary islands being able to receive anything are the people selling the ´dubious´iptv systems which give you sky sports/movies etc..........just remember SKY spend a lot of time and effort protecting their assets....they will go after these illegal providers and will do everything possible to close them down....not that they care too much...they have your money for the iptv box and subscription!!

IPTV carrying free to air channels has been challenged in court and whilst BBC etc do not like it, it has been deemed legal as these channels are non-subscription ie free (anyone read europa etc terms and conditions?) However SKY sports is a totally different matter and Mr Murdoch will be watching!

For those of you who have Sky, and are interested, Astra 2E, the second of the 3 new satellites that service the UK and Europe, has now arrived at it's broadcast position.

After a short period of testing, channels from the existing satellites, 1N and possibly some from 2A, will be transferred over in the next fortnight or so.

Anyone who is receiving BBC, ITV etc with a 1.9m dish will probably loose these as they are expected to move from the 1N euro beam to a UK spot beam.

As Zapparocks has previously said, we will hopefully get back the Sky channels we used to have before the last round of changes.

More info to follow when things start to happen, or not.   :D

will this affect itv hd etc ;

I am 100% certain that you will not get BBC 1,2,3 or 4, ITV 1, or Channel 4 with a standard, 1.2m  dish via the Astra (SKY) satellites as these will move to the UK beams which you need a humungus dish to receive in the Canaries.

With ITV2,3 and 4HD, it depends if they move them to a UK or European beam, if they go to UK beam then it is 'adios' ITV.   :(

Channel 5 seems to be hopping around between satellites at the moment so we will have to see where that finally settles, suspect it will be a UK beam.

Things are starting to be moved over now. Some channels from 2A have been moved over to 2E European beam.
Examples are ITV 2, 3 & 4HD have been moved from the 2A north beam. This means that they are easier to get now, probably even on a 1metre dish. (You do need a Sky subsciption to view them). :D

Can those with Sky boxes try channel 977 and 978, BBC are broadcasting the Winter Olympics on these and they are supposed to be on a European beam.   :D

Also, BBC channels have now moved to a UK beam and ITV are expected to move early next week.

It should be on 978 as the channel number. If not you might want to do a rescan and it should appear.
Chap in Corralejo with a 1.25m dish is getting it.   ;D

Manual settings are 12.552V 22000 5/6

Basically, unless you have a 4 metre plus dish, forget BBC, ITV and Channel 4 now as they have been moved to 2E or 2F UK beams. There may be the odd SD ones that have yet to be moved but  terrestrial TV via satellite in the Canaries is dead.

Well, there is another way but it requires a specialist satellite box and another dish pointing to another satellite. The channels are also encoded.

Sky wise, for those that have subscriptions, you can get Channel 5, I think, on 11.758 H 29500 3/4. The rest of Sky looks to be as good, if not better, than it was 18 months ago.

There may be slight anomalies to the above but that is the jist of it.

If you have a subscription, all Sky Sports should be back now, including Formula 1, same with a lot of the Movie Channels.   :D

            Hi Deso, have tried   11.758  H  29.5   3/4
Got 11,758 H (no 29.5- only options 22.0 or 27.5)  3/4, which came up with no channels!
You say there are no BBC, ITV etc. channels on the island, how come UKTV have BBC1 & 2, ITV & channel 4? 8)

Deso

Because they have a very large dish, something like 3.7m I believe.

Sorry, it should be 11.798. Having said that, can you recieve ITV 2, 3 and 4 HD? They should be on 11758.  :)

Hi Deso, the friend that first sent me that info has several dishes, not sure. The BBC red button is back fta, probably for the Olympics as are the fours on a Sky box with a 1.2m.

Deso

We are over in 4 weeks so I will do a full channel check then. The Red Button 2 is on the European beam. As you say, probably just for the Olympics. The normal RB is on a UK beam.

Hi, anyone know if channel 5 can be got anywhere? No one has mentioned it. It's not on UKTV either. 8)

Deso

If you have a Sky Box and a subscription, Channel 5 HD should be on Ch 171.

If not, forget it as all the rest of the Channel 5's are on UK beams.

First job is unplug box from the mains for half an hour, then plug back in and see what happens.

If you still don't have anything, check your signal strength on the box. Service, settings, signal.

If nothing, change default transponder to 12051, V, 27500, 2/3  Services then press 0,0,1 then select. Then go to Txponder and change settings to the ones above. Save the above settings and see what happens.

If no joy with that, change default transponder back to 11,778, V, 27500, 2/3 and save again.

If that doesn't work phone Denby, 680883544   :D
