Caleta Citizens Meeting October 6th

Report on last night`s Citizens Participation Meeting in The Cultural Centre Caleta de Fuste

Debbie gave an update to 34 people who attended the meeting, I hope these notes are understandable as I found she talks very fast and as I am the newbie and don`t know all the local places fully yet I may have misinterpreted one or two bits of information, others who were there please feel free to correct.

The subjects covered were â€"

Winter Opening times Tenencia Alcaldia â€" The Council office near Faldo Rock / police station are 08.30 14.30.  Debbie also mentioned about paying Bin Tax by 31/10 and if you pay by Direct Debit for 2017 Taxes you get a 4% discount.
There was a reminder about getting you Estancia forms filled in, in Spanish if you are doing any alterations to your property.

Beach Work â€" Now on with Phase 3 of the beach work which should be completed by October 31st and Debbie as portfolio holder for tourism has been asked to organise a celebration event which she has questioned as even she doesn`t think that date will be achieved.
They are trying to get the project to run concurrently for the laying of ducting for pipes and supplies to the new showers and toilets that need to be installed. So this may also delay the finish date.
The colour of the sand was raised but it was felt it will be ok once it is spread out rather than the large piles it is now, it was recommended people go to see the beach near PDR port where the sand has come from.
If in the next few days the whole beach gets closed this is NOT due to the renovation work, it is due to some poor water quality samples that have been taken in the last few days but this is still to be reconfirmed.  The beach in front of the Atlantico Centre and hotels is OK.
Anjoca have reached agreement with the Coastal Authority about an upgrade to the beach in front of the Atlantic Centre and hotels and this work will take place once the main beach work has been completed.  Discussions are taking place re shower facilities as part of this work.

Fiesta of Castillo October 14th to 16th â€" The tent is going up in its usual place where the Tuesday / Saturday market is normally held.  There had been a request to move celebrations down to the main Plaza but the traditionalist had got there way and it where it has always been.
Debbie has only just got the publicity material to translate so it should be out soon.

Costa Antigua â€" The old water treatment plant (I think they mean sewage works) which has deteriated and is causing a local smell problem, paper work is being progressed to get the site cleared and cleaned up.
They are also looking at recreational facilities such a play park and fitness area but as the local authority don`t own any land in the area they are having to negotiate with local land owners which is delaying things.  Debbie will look into issue that some street lights are not working in the area.

Public Works â€" The street work is still to be finish near the hotel where the ramps have to be faced and there is more signage and information maps to be installed.  More signage is to be installed re the new scooter regulations at car parks and zebra crossings
2017 Budgets are being submitted and work should commence going up the main road to Hoya 19 including branching off to the side roads with new pavements.  Some of the developments apparently have not submitted original completion paper work so there may be an issue on the council doing work on these roads and pavements.  Pot holes near the Tommy Nutter roundabout were mentioned.  Negotiations are taking place with owners of the uncompleted sites at the top of the mountain to get them tied up voluntarily otherwise orders may be issued.
The main road side verges in front of the Atlantico Centre and Hotels / two Golf Course are being cleaned up and talks are being held with Oasis Park to see if sponsorship / maintenance agreement can be reach in exchange for advertising signage.
Pavements, or lack of them, stone walls and speed limits in the Triquvijate were mentioned.

Other â€" It was mentioned that a 183 page document in Spanish outlining the proposals re future land usage for residential and tourism was available, it goes under the title BIOF?
Mention was made of the San Miguel Archangel Tuineje 2016 event on October 12th a buss leaves the Tourist Information Point (TIP) @ 10.30 more information available at the TIP.
And finally Debbie is not sure if she will be eligible to continue as a councillor due to Brexit, to stand for election you have to be an EU Citizen.  The consulate have been invited to make a further presentation later in the year early next year and one of the topics will be Dual Citizenship / Nationality, more details will be announced one the visit is arranged.

No meeting in November as Debbie will be in London at The World Travel Market (WTM) promoting Caleta de Fuste and launching a new promotional video that includes Mike Bushell and his recent visit.
