What's the weather like? - April 2017
« on: April 01, 2017, 06:24:25 am »
El Cotillo...  With April here, we should see the last of the unsettled cooler weather. As mentioned in previous post, we are indeed in a Calima.

The forecast for today is for sunshine, no cloud, warm and windy. The easterly wind is expected to be around 20mph, with gusts up to 30mph at its height, this should ease as the day goes on. Temperatures today should reach the mid 20's, feeling hot when in the sun and out of the wind.

Tides:
12:04 AM            Moonset
5:04 AM      2.32 meters   (7.61 ft)   High Tide
7:19 AM            First Light
7:45 AM            Sunrise
11:15 AM      0.22 meters   (0.72 ft)   Low Tide
11:17 AM            Moonrise
5:28 PM      2.25 meters   (7.38 ft)   High Tide
8:13 PM            Sunset
8:38 PM            Last Light
11:43 PM      0.28 meters   (0.92 ft)   Low Tide

Welcome back John, looking forward to your reports.

7.45am. Just checked outside, no condensation, gusty wind, no cloud, just a grey sky and hazy horizon due to the calima. Temperature 17°C.

Thanks Martin, great to be back

When we went to bed last night about 11pm the haze had cleared slightly in so much as we could see stars by 3am it was back and now at 7.30 it is still here with thicker cloud out to the east.

Currently 16c on the patio with a little moisture on the roof terrace floor tiles but nothing on any of the furniture.

Forecast for today to clear by 8/9am and a sunny day with temps up to 24c by mid afternoon, wind NNE / NE up to 26km/h and UV up to 10.

Near Tarajalejo, very gusty night. Recorded 61km/h. Still gusting regularly to 42km/h and now 21.3deg (10am)
Overnight last 2 nights temp didn't drop below 19deg.
Not as hazy as yesterday, so Calima may be passing here.

What a great day yesterday as forecast it cleared in the main and we had sun all day with a little haze, temperature on the terrace got up to 31c in sun and 24c in shade felt cooler though as there was a strong breeze / wind all day.

This morning at 7.20am it was 15c on the terrace and the pool water was 20c, wind has dropped so there is quite a bit of condensation particularly on the roof terrace. Cloud to the east and north. 7.50am now have full cloud cover and still 15c

Forecast for the day says it should be sunny by 8am, no chance, and continue all day with some cloud coming in 7pm, temperature up to 24c and wind N to NE up 20 22km/h mid afternoon and a UV factor of 10 about 1pm.  Now that is the forecast looking at the sky at the moment I don't believe it.

Up bright and early John!

El Cotillo... Very similar start to Caleta, totally overcast. The wind blew its self out during the night, only a slight breeze here now. Everything sounds remarkably quiet. Slight condensation on the terrace. Temperature currently 16°C. The forecast is for a warm sunny day with temperatures in the low to mid 20's. Assuming the sun burns off this cloud, it should be a pleasant day.

Tides:
1:08 AM            Moonset
5:58 AM      2.10 meters   (6.89 ft)   High Tide
7:18 AM            First Light

12:08 PM      0.43 meters   (1.41 ft)   Low Tide
12:11 PM            Moonrise
6:24 PM      2.07 meters   (6.79 ft)   High Tide
8:14 PM            Sunset
8:39 AM            Last Light

8.00am

---------------------

9.00am. Temperature 18°C. Sun shining clear sky. Some gusty easterly wind.

Does anyone know if the strong wind is here all week.
Btw I know it's w breezy island after coming for 18 years but I mean the current strong winds?

It is forecast to ease back anytime now, ut return tomorrow late afternoon, BUT
I believe that here in Caleta it has eased a little, but the visibility is lousy I reckon about a 1,000 metres.

Hi KWC, check this site out for local wind info

https://www.windguru.cz/49334

and this for Calima

http://apalmet.es/calima/modelocalimawrf

I checked the weather posts for April last year, and we seem to be having warmer weather this year, albeit windy.

Martin Talk about being up early!!

Anyway at 7am this morning a light breeze so as the other Caleta John has said the wind has dropped here, no condensation on the roof terrace floor or glass this morning some moisture on the cushions on the patio, temp 15c, clear sky overhead as stars were still quite visible heavy cloud out to the east over the sea.

Forecast for today - Google says cloud, wrong!!  Accuweather says sun all day, which I suspect will be hazy as it has been for the last couple of days, wind varying NNW first thing  round to NE this afternoon up to 28km/h, UV up to 10 @ 1pm

The Accuweather forecast was the correct one for yesterday it was sunny all day with a nice cooling breeze for playing golf, pity my golf wasn't as good as the weather. 6pm in the sun on the patio it was 31C+

7am this morning clear starry sky overhead, sky brightening in the east above a haze and temperature on the patio 14c with no condensation.

Forecast a repeat of yesterday sunny day temperature mid 20'sC wind varying N to NE up to 26km/h late afternoon early evening UV factor of 10 at 1pm

Tides as per MLA's post

Yesterday as forecast sunny all day wherever you were north of Caleta, had a great afternoon out with our friends, some cloud out to the west over the sea didn't allow for us to see a full sunset but still a great view from El Cotillo

Report much the same as yesterday, forecast may be not as hot, the wind will vary from N to NNE and then back to NNW this evening up to 28km/h, UV up to 10 at 1pm again.

Hope you had a good flight and are home safe and sound Martin.

Great day yesterday as forecast and some pics to prove it -

Think McDonalds are thinking of developing a new Goat burger!!!!

7am appeared to be a clear sky with a lot of stars, 13.5C on the patio with some condensation and a very light breeze, as it came light there were a few high wispy white clouds overhead with a lot more cloud over to the west.

Forecast for today a little cloud but a lot of sunshine temperature up to 22C but likely to feel 24C, wind from the NNW up to 30km/h late afternoon and a UV factor of up to 9 at 1pm

Yesterday turned out much better than forecast those wispy clouds soon burnt away and we had a clear sky all day at one point the thermometer in a settled sunny spot was reading over 40C, it was quite breezy so didn't feel to hot.

6.45pm last evening

This morning another clears starry sky overhead and temp of 15c on the patio with a little condensation on the lounger cushions and a little breeze as the wind chimes are ringing.

Forecast for today mostly sunny so if yesterday is a repeat it will be all sunny, temperature up to 22C with UV factor of up to 10 @1pm, wind NNW to NW speed mid 20's up to 30km/h @ 7pm

Wind will make for interesting golf today at Las Salinas

Now it is light some cloud over the sea to the east and some over the mountains to the west, this mornings sunrise -

Near Tarajalejo: Definitely the wind is the dominant feature over the last couple of days & nights. Many gusts well above 50k/h. Hoping for a bit of a lull from the wind in the next day or two. That should make it feel warmer.

WG - hope your balls don't swing too much in this wind!

Yesterday much as forecast nice sunny but windy day so golf was interesting in the wind but pleasant temperature wise.  A few white clouds appeared about lunch time but by mid afternoon had disappeared temperature on the thermometer in a sunny sheltered spot got up to 41C and we had  lovely evening with temperature in the evening sun at 6.50pm still 34C

Yesterday morning 8am

9am

4pm

This morning at 7am it appeared to be a clear sky with stars visible very little breeze and some condensation on the lounger cushions and 14C by 8am it has clouded over with a thin layer of cloud / haze   which I think the sun will soon burn off.

The forecast is for a sunny day from 9am, a little cloud at 1pm but to soon clear again, temperatures low 20'sC but based on previous day it will be higher in sheltered spots, wind to vary from N to E and be no higher that 15km/h later tonight when it will have moved back to come from the NNW.  UV factor up to 10 @ 1pm

So in summary another great day in store.

This morning 7.50am

8.30am

Last post for this trip, back to the UK this evening so hand over the Caleta reporting to the other John tomorrow. A little late this morning as winding down.

Well yesterday the sun had to do battle with haze as it  stayed over cast most of the day, particularly inland whilst we had a tour around with our friends.  The thermometer on the patio in a sheltered spot did reach 34C though and there was very little wind. Almost full moon last night through the haze.

This morning at 7.30 16C very little if no breeze and no condensation, hazy overcast sky.

Forecast for a sunny day from 10am temperature in the low 20'sC wind in WNW to NW (that is a first for one of my posts) 11-18km/h UV up to 10 again at about 1pm

At 10.25am the sun is trying very had to burn off the haze and it is now 32C in the sun and 20C in the shade with not a breath of wind.
