Am I right in thinking it's the Lobos to Corralejo swim tomorrow? If so, do you know when we ought to be there to have any chance of seeing anything of what's going on?

Captain Sensible

Sorry Sheila, I missed the above post last week.  Did you see the swimmers?  My friends's daughter came 1st in the Ladies race.

Not to worry, we did catch it, thanks. We went first for an Irish breakfast at Poitin Stil, then back to the bar just by the finish line.

Actually, the best bit was before any of the swimmers arrived: I think the tide was unseasonally high as first of all the inflatable archway (the finish) started to wobble, then it fell flat in the water as the organisers dived for the computers, cables, sound system, monitors... before they got wet. In the end, the inflatable was abandoned and removed moments before the first (male) swimmers arrived. Great fun! :D

We didn't actually see too much of the finish as we were sitting, and everyone came and stood in front of us! :(  Still, the ambiance was great. I met the woman who came last this morning. :)

Captain Sensible

Thursday 1 November is a public holiday to celebrate All Souls Day.

8 - 11 November is the International Kite Festival on the dunes.

Captain Sensible

There are two public holidays this week on Fuerteventura. Thursday 6 December celebrates Constitution Day and Saturday 8 December celebrates the Immaculate Conception.

SheilaW

Is anything likely to happen? "Constitution Day" sounds like a national holiday, similar to 14th July in France (the "storming of the Bastille" day). Are there festivities planned or is it just another excuse for workers to down tools?

Captain Sensible

No celebrations, Sheila.  Just a down tools day ::).   Schools take the 7th of December off as well ( it's called the Day of the Student)to make a long holiday!

Captain Sensible

There's a Christmas Market in the Plaza in Caleta de Fuste on Sunday 23 December 16.00 - 21.00.

Santa will be there plus Disney characters. Free bouncy castles. Plus live music and Christmas Music.
