Title: taxis and wheelchairs
Post by: adker on August 16, 2012, 19:19:30 PM
Hi everyone,

I'm planning to come to Corralejo in a wheelchair, unaccompanied, next month. Will the normal green lamp taxis accept my fare with a folding wheelchair, and will the driver normally be willing to help fold, put in boot, and unfold at the other end? Should I tip?

Also would be grateful for any info on which restaurants, on or near the main strip in Corralejo, are likely to be accessible and spacious enough for a wheelchair.

Thanks for any advice,

Andrew

I don't have any definite answers for you, except that we always tip the taxi-drivers anyway (their fares are so reasonable!). There are several taxi ranks around town and there's usually quite a selection of makes and models lined up. I would expect that some don't really have the capacity, whilst others would be fine. I'm sure the first-in-line will see you sorted OK.

As for restaurants, I know I've seen several people in restaurants who've substituted their own chair for the dining-chair, but I can't for the life of me remember where. Fortunately, the days of remembering such things have gone - it's so normal to see disabled people out and about now. I really don't think you'll feel excluded - there are just so many restaurants that if there are 10 who can't cater for you it won't matter a toss.
