Quick question. How much does it cost to watch
Cotillo or Rosario and can you pay on the gate?

€5 pay at ticket counter near gate. Nowhere to sit out of the sun at Cotillo so take a sunhat, brolly, whatever.

Today's results:

Union Puerto 0  SD Tenisca  1

Mensajero  2  CD Cotillo  0

So both of Fuerteventura's teams lost to both of La Palma's teams.

We went to the Puerto game.  Arrived at 11.55 for the midday KO to find that it wasn't starting until 12.30.

It wasn't too exciting, but it was nice to be sat in the hot sun for 2 hours.  The highlight of the first half was a yellow card for a Tenisca substitute who was in the dugout.  The goal was scored in the 65th minute when a shot was parried by the Puerto keeper and the follow up just got over the line.  Lots of yellow cards in the 2nd half but no reds.

Union Puerto's away game at Union Sur Yaiza in Lanzarote was postponed today, following the death of someone connected with the home club.

Of the 21 teams in the League, Puerto are 19th and CD Cotillo are 10th.

Title: Re: Football Season 2017/18 - CD Cotillo & Union Puerto Fixtures/Results
Post by: Captain Sensible on September 03, 2017, 22:46:49 pm
This was the reason given in the press in July - I've translated it, but I still don't understand the reason why -
'The Assembly of the Canary Football Federation decided to approve the expansion of the Third Division into one more team, allowing Haría CF and UD Llanos, (teams that had administrative litigation), to play both next season in the category.'

Thanks Captain.
I was looking at the table on futbol.com yesterday and it shows the four descenso places 16-20 in red but the team in 21st place doesn't have the red coding.
All seems a bit confusing at present but as long as Cotillo & UP don't end up in the lower reaches everything should be ok.

Union Puerto 1 UD Villa Santa Brigida 2. Not the best game of football and lost count of the yellow cards in the second half. Young looking ref did well to stay in charge of this one.

Today's result

Cotillo 1 - Panaderia Pulido San Mateo 1. A good point for Cotillo.

The other team were bigger and more powerful and had more of the possession. They went one up after about 40 minutes with a good medium range strike. It was difficult to see a way back for Cotillo, but they hung on till half time.

A couple of Cotillo subs came on at half time and the Cotillo right back who looked their best player was moved into midfield and started to get his foot on the ball. As a result they were a different team for the first 15 minutes of the second half and got the equaliser after about 55 minutes with the new left winger scoring from close range.

A few bookings in the last half hour and the other team started to press again especially from set pieces. Cotillo were hanging on a bit at the end and rode their luck.

A good point.

Thanks

They are amateur.  There was a report the other week that said any teams in this Division need 90,000€ a year to pay there way.  Away fixtures can be in any of the Canary Islands.  Home crowds vary between 100-200 at 5€ a time.

The standard is reasonably high.

Union Puerto sacked their coach today after 18 months in charge.

A good competitive game today although Cotillo spent most of the second half in the own half. Lots of yellow cards with a player being send off from each side. Could have been a win for Lanzorote as they hit the bar twice in the second half. (I hit the bar at half time). The attendance looks good today.

I was at the Cotillo game. If they keep playing like that then relegation is a certainty as they were abysmal.

They are using a completely new back line and all four are totally and utterly out of their depth. The standard in this league is reasonably good and these kids at the back are nowhere near good enough. It’s not an experience thing, it’s a footballing ability thing - they are simply quite poor footballers playing against decent opposition. The irony is that Cotillo also has one of the better players in the league (#10) but he is surrounded by very little.

Cotillo are in trouble IMO.

I think you're being a bit harsh. Cotillo have indeed lost four of their last five games, but all have been against teams in the top half of the table (except for the the 2-1 defeat at Puerto, where they were unfortunate not to get a draw. Las Palmas C are fourth in the table, and are one of the best sides in the division.
Despite this run of results, Cotillo are still in 13th position. Don't forget that prior to this they had won four and drawn one of their previous five matches, and only conceded one goal in the process.
The young players are short on experience, but I don't think they are as poor as you say.
Totally agree that Cotillo's number 10 is a class act.

There are some interesting games coming up in the Fuerteventura Regional League this Friday (1st December).
"Match of the day" is probably second placed Jandia (the only unbeaten team in the league) against fourth placed La Lajita (21:30), whilst top of the table Gran Tajaral are at home to sixth placed Chilegua (21:30).
Current wooden spoonists Triquivijate (who led 3-0 at Corralejo a couple of weeks ago, only for Corralejo to score three in the last 20 minutes) are unlikely to get much joy from their clash with third in the table Playas de Sotavento (21:00). More difficult to call is the match between Herbania and Villaverde (21:30), who are respectively eighth and seventh. Taralejo versus Las Playitas (21:00) - ninth and fifth - could also be an interesting encounter.
And finally Corralejo (eleventh) host 35600 (tenth) at 21:30, hoping to get an elusive win that would move them above their Puerto rivals.
If you fancy going to a game, residents and visitors alike, why not give it a try. You might well be surprised by the standard of football.

Hi John,

I hope you are right that Cotillo are better than my assessment. I’ve only seen them twice so far this season and they looked far more solid at the back in September with different older centre halves. The defence was very poor yesterday with the big #4 beaten time and again in the air by a much smaller but admittedly very decent centre forward.

The Cotillo #10 looks like he’s played at a higher level. Very physical and skilful. But he looks a bit disinterested at times and doesn’t take the game by the scruff of the neck when he clearly has the ability to do so. The bearded #8 is the nearest thing he has to decent support.

The table is very congested above Vera who are clearly out of their depth this season. I worry for Cotillo.

Cheers,

Ernie

Yes, my mistake.  It is Saturday 23rd.

I've just looked at the original fixture list, and it's not a change of date after all. ::)  It's just an unusual kick off time :)

The Fuerteventura League resumes this Friday (12th) after the winter break, with some interesting games coming up.
Leaders Gran Tarajal are at home to Herbania (21:30), and second placed Jandia travel to Chilegua La Pared (21:00). There should be a good game at Morro Jable where third placed Playas de Sotavento meet Las Playitas, who are right behind them in the league table (21:30).
Elsewhere Villaverde Norte host current wooden spoonists Triquivijate, who are still looking for their first win of the campaign (21:00). It's ninth versus tenth in the capital, with a 21:30 kick-off for 35600 against Tarajalejo, and finally La Lajita (seventh) face Corralejo (eleventh) (21:00).
Good luck to all, but personally hoping that Corralejo can put in a strong finish to the season and start climbing up the table.

An excellent win for Cotillo over the league leaders.

Cotillo are 14th with 25 points and Puerto are 16th with 23 points.

That's two wins and a draw for El Cotillo from their last three games, so hopefully they're starting to turn the corner. Mensajero are always tough opponents, so this was a very good three points - Jesua scored the winner in the 88th minute.

Looking forward to seeing some more of Cotillo this month. I’ll be amazed if there haven’t been a few personnel changes since late November as the team I saw then would have been annihilated by the top of the league let alone beat them. But great news that they are on the up.

It's usually midday, but it can change depending on the flight times from the other Canary Islands.
San Fernando are from Gran Canaria so it should be a midday kick off, but it won't be confirmed until a 2-3 days before.

It wasn't a great night at the Vicente Carreno - unless you were a visiting supporter. Fair play to Gran Tarajal, they looked a very good side and I would be surprised if they don't get promoted at the end of the season.
Amazingly it was only 1-0 at half-time, but Corralejo ran out of steam in the second half.
I'm still reeling from the fact that one of the assistant referees was wearing gloves!

Gran Tarajal now six points clear at the top of Fuerteventura league. They had a 2-0 home win last night against bottom-of-the-table Triquivijate, which sounds like a much tighter game than would have been envisaged.
Second placed Jandia were two goals up against second-from-bottom Corralejo, but the visitors fought back and the final score was 2-2 - another surprising result.

Cotillo were poor again today against a much bigger and better opposition. With the exception of the usual couple of decent Cotillo players (their best player started on the bench for some reason - probably disciplinary I guess as he was quickly on inside the first 20 minutes) the rest were substandard. That said they had a couple of decent chances, but the other team deserved to win. Cotillo’s bearded attacking midfielder was shown red for two yellows on the 90 minute mark which is another blow as he is one of their few decent players.

Cotillo will be lucky to stay up this season IMO.

Not a great result for Cotillo, but don't forget when they played away at San Fernando in September they lost 6-0, so this result could be seen as an improvement. I agree that they'll miss Cristian Langarica whilst he's suspended, he's certainly one of the more influential players. Equally of concern is the injury to Pedro - I hear that he had to be substituted during the game - hopefully he won't be missing for long.
Have faith, they won't be relegated.

Today’s result ...

Cotillo 2 - Haria 1

A crucial win against the bottom of the league. Haria brought maybe 100 fans from Lanzarote so it made for a great atmosphere with some mild hostilities which was fun. Their team looked very young, small and lightweight but they had plenty of skill.

Cotillo went one up inside five minutes - a good header from a corner. But they couldn’t add to it in the first half.

In the second half Cotillo got a second with Cristian Langarica scoring a good breakaway goal.

For the last 15 minutes Haria pressed and got a penalty with ten minutes to go which they scored. Cotillo hung on for the crucial win. They had some players back at the back and looked more solid.

There must have been 8 yellow cards but no reds. I was sorry to see Roberto go off at half time as he is nice to watch, but if not he would have definitely got a second yellow and walked. There were quite a few handbags at five paces between the teams - everyone clearly knew how much it mattered.

Well worth €5

Thanks for the info. A terrible result and I really think Cotillo will go down. I watched them narrowly beat Haria at home a couple of weeks ago and Haria look to be easily the worst team in the league due to their size and youthfulness. Cotillo should have controlled the game easily but they didn’t.

I noticed that last weekend the bottom half of the table compressed with teams below Cotillo doing well and those above doing badly so those in the relegation zone are stepping it up.

Cotillo’s problems have moved from defence to attack. They now look a bit better at the back but they have no really decent goal scorers. How many goals have they scored this season ?

The better Cotillo players are midfielders and if I were in charge I’d consider giving Langarica and Roberto a start upfront. The goals won’t come from anyone else so put them there IMO.

I sincerely hope Im wrong but they’ve looked relegation material all season.

I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that if teams are level on points in this league then the positioning is decided on the results between the relevant teams. If that's right I don't know if it just applies at the end of the season or during the season as well.
Hopefully the Captain will be able to confirm one way or the other.

Cotillo a bit unfortunate to lose 3-0. The teams were well matched, and it was goalless at half time. They then gave away an own goal when there was no real danger, and then conceded two soft breakaway goals in quick succession. Cotillo hit the woodwork twice and had a clear penalty shout - for a push in the back that everyone saw, apart from the referee and his assistant- turned down.
They certainly weren't great, giving possession away too easily at times, but the scoreline  doesn't reflect the match.

CD Corralejo have now finished their season, finishing second from bottom of the league, with just two wins and five draws to show for their efforts.
However they've shown some good spirit and hopefully the youngsters will have gained from the experience. The last two matches were both lost by the same scoreline - 4-3 - against high flying Playas de Sotavento (a great fight back after being 4-0 down) and then last night against the numbers team from Puerto.
I look forward to next season already, and anticipate that the team will improve - many defeats were by just the odd goal and this should give encouragement for next year.

Thanks for the scores. Another good point for Cotillo. Good to see Roberto on the score sheet, the best Cotillo player by some margin IMO. Think he might have been on Valencia’s books for a while.

Great point for Puerto too.

Not a good day - the results:

Panaderia Pulido  2  Union Puerto  0

CD Cotillo 0  Villa Santa Brigida  1

They are both still 16th and 17th, but the two clubs below them both won, so now only 3 points clear of the relegation places.

The derby match in Cotillo in 2 weeks time will be crucial.

An excellent away win for CD Cotillo at 5th placed Las Palmas C yesterday evening:

Las Palmas C   0   CD Cotillo   2

Union Puerto play Estrella at home today at midday.  Estrella are 4 points behind them in the last relegation place.

Thanks. An incredible win away which hopefully sees them safe. They were very poor again last week against Puerto (who were also poor) and having seen them turned over by Las Palmas at home I wouldn’t have given them a chance.

Good luck to Puerto today.

Another incredible win for Cotillo. Great news. I have seen them about half a dozen times this year and each time they have been garbage, most recently in their scrappy win over Puerto. All the talk was of their tough run in and where the necessary points would come from, and then they go and beat two of the top teams in the league. A big relief.

Estrella have a tough end to the season too so fingers crossed Puerto can find something and escape. I watched them for the first time in the derby match a few weeks ago and based on earlier results I expected more, but it seems everyone can beat everyone else in this league so fingers crossed.

Today's result.
Union Puerto  1  Marino  0

Puerto scored in the 84th minute, and now have 41 points.

Estrella, the team who were above them on goal difference, lost 7-0 at Tenerife B.

Barring a big turn around in the last matches next weekend, Puerto should be safe.

Thanks again. A massive goal for Puerto which leaves them three points above Estrella with a much better goal difference. Under normal circumstances this would be enough but there does seem to be some uncertainty as whether the head to head results between Puerto and Estrella are more important than goal difference in which case there could still be some uncertainty. I can’t be bothered to go back through all the results to find out :)

Cotillo back to their usual form but they’ve earned an easy week :)

Puerto drew 0-0 at Estrella and lost 0-2 at home, so Estrella would win on a head to head if this comes into play at all.

Next weekend, the final fixtures are:
Las Zocas v Union Puerto
Estrella v Ibarra

Ibarra are 5th but even if they win they won't get into the final play-off place.  Las Zocas are mid-table.

So, to clarify, a point or a win for Puerto tomorrow will mean that they stay up.  They will also stay up if Estrella draw or lose.
The worst scenario is if Estrella win and Puerto lose, then Puerto will be relegated, because Estrella have the better of the head to head matches between Puerto and Estrella.

Last night in the Regional League Final first leg, Gran Tarajal won 1-o away at UD Jandia in front of 350 supporters.

The winner of this Final will play the winner from Lanzarote to see who wins a place in the Preferente League.

CD Cotillo are at home to CD Buzanada at midday tomorrow.  Free food after the match from the club as a thank you to the supporters.

In the 2nd leg of the Fuerteventura League play-off Final last night, UD Gran Tarajal won 2-0 at home against UD Jandia.  They won the tie 3-0 on aggregate.

They will now play the winners of the Lanzarote play off final, who were San Bartolome who beat Puerto del Carmen.

The winners of that match will be promoted to the Preferente League.

Is the Preferente league one below the Cotillo/PdR league ? I assumed Gran Tarajal were fighting for promotion into the Group XII league to join EC/PdR but obviously not.

Yes, the Preferente is the league below the Spanish Division (Group 12 - Canarias).  It's the league that Cotillo and Union Puerto were promoted from a few seasons ago.
