car hire prices 2015
« on: September 09, 2014, 14:15:26 pm »
Hi everyone,

I don't know if anyone has tried putting in a reservation for 2015, but prices seem to have nearly doubled. Last year I booked with Autos Plus for Jan 1 to Jan 18 and paid €168.47. This year the website offers me a price of €314.50 for the same dates. So I tried the usual suspects, Payless, Cicar, Europcar. Surprise! they all have very similar price structures. Faced with those prices I even tried Orlando, but they are showing nothing.

Does anyone know if something is going on? Usually the prices are best a long way out, and then increase nearer the time. Has this happened before? Are we stuck with a cartel of fixed prices or will they break ranks and lower prices when they don't get the bookings?

any comments welcome,
Thanks
Nobby :o

I'm afraid it is down to your timing, your dates start during the Xmas/New Year holiday period.
If you book a week later, they are normal prices again.

Thanks Deso,

you are right, if I book a week later it goes down to €137.  I guess that the first week will be a bit of gentle decorating at home then.
