They are amateur.  There was a report the other week that said any teams in this Division need 90,000€ a year to pay there way.  Away fixtures can be in any of the Canary Islands.  Home crowds vary between 100-200 at 5€ a time.

The standard is reasonably high.

Union Puerto sacked their coach today after 18 months in charge.

Took El Cotillo up to La Liga a few years back on Football Manager, might put my CV in for Union Puerto ;) :P

A good competitive game today although Cotillo spent most of the second half in the own half. Lots of yellow cards with a player being send off from each side. Could have been a win for Lanzorote as they hit the bar twice in the second half. (I hit the bar at half time). The attendance looks good today.

The new signing Jony scored both the Puerto goals.  Around 800 in the crowd.

Today's results:

CD Cotillo   1  Las Palmas C  3

Estrella  0  Union Puerto  0

Cotillo are 13th with 18 points and Puerto are 19th with 15 points.

Some matches in the Western Canaries were postponed because of an alert for heavy rain and strong winds.

I was at the Cotillo game. If they keep playing like that then relegation is a certainty as they were abysmal.

They are using a completely new back line and all four are totally and utterly out of their depth. The standard in this league is reasonably good and these kids at the back are nowhere near good enough. It’s not an experience thing, it’s a footballing ability thing - they are simply quite poor footballers playing against decent opposition. The irony is that Cotillo also has one of the better players in the league (#10) but he is surrounded by very little.

Cotillo are in trouble IMO.

I think you're being a bit harsh. Cotillo have indeed lost four of their last five games, but all have been against teams in the top half of the table (except for the the 2-1 defeat at Puerto, where they were unfortunate not to get a draw. Las Palmas C are fourth in the table, and are one of the best sides in the division.
Despite this run of results, Cotillo are still in 13th position. Don't forget that prior to this they had won four and drawn one of their previous five matches, and only conceded one goal in the process.
The young players are short on experience, but I don't think they are as poor as you say.
Totally agree that Cotillo's number 10 is a class act.

There are some interesting games coming up in the Fuerteventura Regional League this Friday (1st December).
"Match of the day" is probably second placed Jandia (the only unbeaten team in the league) against fourth placed La Lajita (21:30), whilst top of the table Gran Tajaral are at home to sixth placed Chilegua (21:30).
Current wooden spoonists Triquivijate (who led 3-0 at Corralejo a couple of weeks ago, only for Corralejo to score three in the last 20 minutes) are unlikely to get much joy from their clash with third in the table Playas de Sotavento (21:00). More difficult to call is the match between Herbania and Villaverde (21:30), who are respectively eighth and seventh. Taralejo versus Las Playitas (21:00) - ninth and fifth - could also be an interesting encounter.
And finally Corralejo (eleventh) host 35600 (tenth) at 21:30, hoping to get an elusive win that would move them above their Puerto rivals.
If you fancy going to a game, residents and visitors alike, why not give it a try. You might well be surprised by the standard of football.

Hi John,

I hope you are right that Cotillo are better than my assessment. I’ve only seen them twice so far this season and they looked far more solid at the back in September with different older centre halves. The defence was very poor yesterday with the big #4 beaten time and again in the air by a much smaller but admittedly very decent centre forward.

The Cotillo #10 looks like he’s played at a higher level. Very physical and skilful. But he looks a bit disinterested at times and doesn’t take the game by the scruff of the neck when he clearly has the ability to do so. The bearded #8 is the nearest thing he has to decent support.

The table is very congested above Vera who are clearly out of their depth this season. I worry for Cotillo.

Cheers,

Ernie

Not looking good for El Cotillo. They were five goals down just after the half hour mark today, so would probably have settled then for 7-1!
