the complete villa winter thread
« on: June 19, 2018, 14:17:50 pm »
just thought I would start a thread on Villa Winter so we can keep everything ive heard/read about the place in one place.

some of this is fact some is stories ive read/heard/rumours.

Franco gave hitler the jandia peninsula in return for hitler bombing Guernica in 1937, the germans had feet on the ground before this but the area was cordenned off and jandia belonged to germany after this.
there is a natural cove under the hill below villa winter
you could access the sub cove via stairs from villa winter (now blocked up)
there are 2 natural lava pods leading to the sea big enough for U boats to go in and out of
the villa was built on top of a bomb shelter (fact)
there was rail lines going into the hill (remenants of these are visable today via blatantly closed up tunnels)
there was armed guards with security dogs on coffette all the way up untill 1992
Mr Winter built the dock in morrow jable
the road to cofette was built by prisoners of war held at a camp in tefia
the nazi's boasted about having a under sea hidden uboat base
american intel recorded in now released files Mr Winter was supplying the U Boats from morrow jable, he wasnt, he was recieving refil stock at the morrow jable dock then taking them over to the base via trucks then rail into the hill.
story has it that one of the u-boats broke down blocking one of the entrances to the base, that was when 6 U-boats where seen restocking in Gran Canaria main public port and the british consulate complained to spain as he had seen them with his own eyes.
a maritime engineer in Gran Canaria says his father (then the largest maritime engineering firm in GC) said they used to re load the torpedoes for the germans and has found 4 enigma machines in the area the germans drilled out for restocking torpedoes (its the side of a hill facing the sea north GC)
there is a clean room in Villa Winter that would be ideal for surgery
rumour has it locals where detained in the cells below VW and some of the nazis stole their identity/had facial surgery to change the way they looked so they could roam the globe free after the war.
there are no accounts of anyone ever seeing hitler in FV but there are several reported sightings in south Tenerife shortly after the war.
rumour is hitler travelled by sub from northern spain to cofete and due to health issues had a couple of weeks rest before travelling to tenerife and spending a few months resting there before continuing on to argentina (a couple of month journey) where he lived until about 1964

Have any tunnels been found

you can see the blocked rail ones where the tracks go in to the hillside and the tunnel has been filled

the owner of villa winter says it looks like work has been done to block the ones in the house, there are stairs going down, he's trying to raise money to get a sonar kit out there to see if there are tunnels under it.

in the 70's after Mr Winters death, 2 professional divers hired a yacht and planned to see if they could locate the lava pods, if I remember right one was austrian and the other was french, at this time the area around coffette was still under armed guard, they dived in the water, a short time later their boat blew up and the divers where never seen ever again.

Given the scale of the alleged u-boat base on Gran Canaria, as featured in the History Channel's Hunting Hitler series, I'm going to come down as a skeptic on there being a facility for docking submarines at Cofete.

To add a few more facts and rumours

The villa was built on a freshwater stream coming off the mountain ridge
A yacht whose crew of divers were searching for tunnels mysteriously exploded
Prisoners from the post Civil War concentration camp at Tefia were the forced labour who built the road to Cofete.
There was an airstrip on the coast between MJ and Puertito serving the Villa
The villa was used as a recreation retreat for high ranking Nazis during WWII. The little garden in the middle of the yard was once a swimming pool.

"there was armed guards with security dogs on coffette all the way up untill 1992".

I first went there in 1985 and there were no security or dogs then.

There is a book called the “The Spanish Holocaust”, by an English author called Preston, terrifying reading, but it does mention "Concentration Camps". The camp at Tefia didn't hold prisoners of war, it was a concentration camp holding political prisoners, the Tefia camp held Homosexuals and intellectuals arrested under the Franco regime, just though I would put you right on that small point.

does anyone know when the wall was removed or the location of the wall ?

I tried (but not too hard) to find the wall or reminants of the wall a couple of years ago but couldnt see anything, i guess where the sand meets the mountains south of sotto vento or costa calma to la pared would be where it should have been, being easier to keep an eye out if it was in the south of sotto vento.

Regarding the cemeteries on the beach, I believe it is for the local Families and their relatives who have perished while at sea.

actually hes showing more tunnels in other posts if you look.

it is very odd though why the local government are not trying to help him, as if they know the truth will upset someone.

About 25 years ago we were sitting outside Casa Chano (now Casa Rustica) in El Cotillo and got chatting to a German journalist.

He was researching Nazis fleeing Europe towards the end of the war, settling in Fuerteventura and the influence they had in developing the island after the war.

Here are some of the things he had to say:

“The Canary Islands and in particular Fuerteventura were considered a good place for Nazis to settle and not be detected.  The islands were also used as a stepping stone to move on to South America.

During the war, U-boats used to moor off the coast to allow the German crews a few days rest and relaxation on the beaches.  They’ve been coming back for holidays ever since!

Substantial sums of Nazis money was used to develop the south of the island.  They also bank rolled a German car dealership, hotels and several other prominent businesses.

Most people were reluctant to be interviewed and on one occasion the journalist was about to meet someone at a bar when three burly Germans approached him and suggested that he leave before any harm came to him.”

He talked about Villa Winter but nothing came out that has not been written elsewhere.  He thought stories about caves and submarine pens were fanciful.
